What is mock trial?

Mock trial is a national competition for high school and college students that develops leadership skills through trial simulations. Students compete against other institutions and in the process develop critical thinking and public speaking skills, as well as a knowledge of legal practices and trial advocacy.

Students will travel to compete at Invitational competitions and Regionals, hosted by the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA). When competing, students will work in teams during a trial simulation. The trial simulation involves attorneys, witnesses, and judges. Students can serve as attorneys and/ or witnesses. Judges are often current and former attorneys, litigators, and occasionally state court judges. At the end of the simulation, the team with the best score, as determined by the judge, wins!
